The Power of Song

Children in Uganda are spreading the word about how to avoid trachoma infection – tunefully.

Pupils at Kagoma Primary School in the town of Jinja were taught a song containing messages about facial hygiene and other methods of containing the spread of the disease. The participants, who were chosen on the basis both of their singing voices and their level of understanding, were also given t-shirts with the same advice.

It is hoped that the song will ensure that the children both follow the advice it contains, and pass on the message to their families and community.
